NPM Day 9 This Is Why We Do This

Updated: Feb 6, 2019

I lie awake and sigh hearing her tiny body let out a cry.

“I'm hungry” she said as I crawl out of bed

“I'm wet!” she screamed, “and I had a bad dream.”

So, I warm the milk and change her diaper,

with poo too, she couldn’t be riper.

I scoop her up and swaddle her close.

“It’s okay, I’m here. Mommy knows.”

I shimmy, I shake, until half past three;

I look down and finally see my

baby girl has fallen asleep.

Over to her crib I creep. I lay her down without making a peep.

Just as I thought the coast was clear, I hear her tiny voice whisper something very dear.

“I love you mommy, goodnight.”

This...This is why we do this.

It’s your funeral today I’m wearing earrings grandma I know you can’t hear me but my make up is done, my nails are painted, and I’m wearing purple. I’m representing you the best way I know how.
